C.J. recently rediscovered these old photographs tucked away in a filing cabinet at our office. They took us back to the early years of our real estate careers.
The clothes and studio backdrop belong to another time.
What we see in them today is the beginning of a partnership built on different strengths and one shared goal: to create a better real estate experience for the people we represented.
I began my real estate career in 1991 with a large franchise firm in Round Rock. My strengths naturally developed around sales, marketing, pricing, negotiation, and creating opportunities.
C.J. brought a different perspective.
Her background included banking, title, residential construction, and real estate sales. She understood the financial, contractual, and practical details behind a transaction, along with the importance of keeping every part moving steadily toward closing.
Over time, those different strengths became complementary.
I focused on sales strategy, marketing, pricing, and how a property was presented to the market.
C.J. focused on structure, details, communication, and execution.
Together, we learned that strong representation required both.
After working within larger companies, we also became clear about the kind of business we wanted to build.
We wanted to remain personally involved.
We wanted clients to work directly with us rather than being passed among departments, assistants, or rotating team members.
We wanted relationships that extended beyond a single transaction.
And we wanted to keep improving the way real estate service was delivered.
In 2000, we opened Pfau & Company Realtors.
Our original promise was simple:
Exceptional Realty Service.
It reflected what we believed then and still believe today—that experience should lead to better guidance, stronger communication, greater accountability, and more thoughtful representation.
Since then, we have worked side by side through changing markets, growing communities, and more than 800 closed transactions across Central Texas.
We have sold neighborhood homes, new construction, lake properties, homes on acreage, rural land, and ranch properties throughout Williamson, Burnet, and Travis counties, and beyond in the surrounding Hill Country.
Those years brought lessons we could never have learned from one market, one property type, or one role alone.
Over time, the way we worked became more defined. We learned that better outcomes were consistently shaped by how well a property was prepared, how thoughtfully it was positioned, how carefully negotiations were handled, and how steadily the transaction was managed through closing.
Eventually, those ideas became the four principles that guide our work today:
Preparation. Positioning. Negotiation. Results.
The words came later.
The desire behind them had been there from the beginning.
Today, C.J. and I still work directly with every client.
I lead listing representation, marketing direction, and the preparation and positioning of properties for sale.
C.J. leads buyer representation and oversees the progress of each transaction from contract through closing.
We collaborate on strategy, negotiation, problem-solving, and the decisions that can influence the outcome.
Looking back at these photographs, we could not have predicted exactly where the journey would lead.
But the foundation was already there.
Two people with different strengths.
A shared commitment to remain involved.
A belief that relationships mattered.
And a continuing desire to provide a better level of real estate service.
The photographs may belong to another era. The partnership—and the purpose behind it—remain very much the same.
