C.J. recently rediscovered these old photographs tucked away in a filing cabinet at our office.
They took us back to the early years of our real estate careers.
The clothes, studio backdrop, and our younger selves belong to another time.
What we see in them today is the beginning of a partnership built on different strengths and one shared goal: to create a better real estate experience for the people we represented.
I began my real estate career in 1991 with Century 21 Nations Realty in Round Rock, where the average home sale was approximately $56,000.
Much of my early business came from cold calling nearly 250 homes each week through a crisscross directory, door knocking neighborhoods, and working with for-sale-by-owner sellers.
It was not glamorous work.
But it taught me persistence, discipline, and how to create opportunity from the ground up. Those years helped shape my strengths in sales strategy, marketing, pricing, and negotiation.
C.J. brought a different perspective.
From the beginning, she became the solid, steady core of our business.
Her background included banking, title, residential construction, and real estate sales. She understood the financial, contractual, and practical details behind a transaction and the importance of keeping every part moving steadily toward closing.
Where I was often focused on creating the opportunity, C.J. brought the structure, judgment, and consistency needed to carry it through.
She helped buyers evaluate homes realistically, understand the financial and practical implications of their choices, and guided both buyers and sellers through the transaction from contract to closing.
Our strengths were different, but they worked together.
After working within larger companies, we became clear about the kind of business we wanted to build.
We wanted to remain personally involved, work directly with our clients, and build relationships that extended beyond a single transaction.
Most of all, we wanted to keep improving the way real estate service was delivered.
In 2000, we opened Pfau & Company Realtors.
Our original promise was simple:

It reflected what we believed then and still believe today: experience should lead to better guidance, stronger communication, greater accountability, and more thoughtful representation.
Since then, we have worked side by side through changing markets, growing communities, and more than 800 closed transactions across Central Texas.
We have helped buyers and sellers with neighborhood homes, new construction, lake properties, homes on acreage, rural land, and ranch properties throughout Williamson, Burnet, and Travis counties and the surrounding Hill Country.
Those years brought lessons we could never have learned from one market, one property type, or one side of the transaction alone.
We learned that better outcomes are shaped by disciplined preparation, thoughtful positioning, well-informed decisions, effective negotiation, and steady guidance through closing.
The words came later.
The desire behind them had been there from the beginning.
Looking back at these photographs, we could not have predicted exactly where the journey would lead.
But the foundation was already there.
Two people with different strengths.
A shared work ethic.
A belief that relationships mattered.
And a continuing desire to provide a better level of real estate service.
The photographs may belong to another era.
The partnership, the work ethic, and the purpose behind it remain very much the same.
